(Update- I've started a Kool 98 Morning Show Page on Facebook. You'll find the link below so feel free to send a friend request and give a big thumbs up for a like on the page. Also, If you're looking for a DJ for your special event, weather it be a Wedding Reception, Birthday Party, Anniversary, Retirement Party, or just about any kind of celebration you can think of, the Kool 98 Sound System is ready to come out to your special event! E-mail cj@kool98.com, or call 996-1100 for pricing and available dates. Now, on to my exciting bio! LOL)

I came into this world on Jan 20th. That’s very important information in case you want to send me a b-day card or gift someday! Ha Ha! I grew up in Salem and was active in Basketball and Baseball as well as working for my parents at the Drive-In when they owned it. That turned out to be a good move because that’s where I learned how to cook! That’s a very important thing when you’re a bachelor! I have 2 sisters, Shanon still lives in Salem, and I have 2 nephews that are the best. Kara lives near Austin Texas and always rubs it in about how warm it stays in the winter there!

After high school, I attended Mount Marty College in Yankton where I thought I was going to become a teacher. However, after taking a radio broadcasting course, I was hooked. I spent my first year in radio in Sioux Falls before moving out to South Bend, Indiana for 8 years. I’ve been back home since 2004 and have been proud to be the Program Director for Kool 98 ever since then. These days I stay busy with bowling and city league basketball as well as my Daughter. I also have 2 spoiled cats at home and everyone knows I’m a huge animal lover. I'm active with Mitchell Animal Rescue.
If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or requests, feel free to e-mail me at cj@kool98.com

Infomercials

“Infomercials”

First off, let me apologize for not keeping up on here lately, but ever since I started up a Facebook page on the Morning Show, I’ve been focusing mostly on that. So, feel free to check out that page to catch up and see what’s been going on. Now, to the business at hand, we’ve all seen those Infomercials that are on late at night pushing interesting gadgets. Well, thanks to the fine folks at “as seen on tv dot com”, we’re going to get to try some of them out on the morning show and let you know what we think of them. As a matter of fact, they are even sending some that we will get to try before they even hit television or stores. I’ve put a link here on my page to their website in case you want to look around there site and check out anything we end up talking about. So, be listening soon for fun stuff that we get to review and give our opinion on. Other than that, it’s been a busy summer out and about with the 2009 Chevy Impala in the Super Summer Giveaway and I’m getting ready to take my daughter to Flinstone Park so that will be fun.

Baseball

June 15th, 2010 by cjohnson-kuql

If you were wondering why I was gone yesterday, I decided to take a day off to recover from the weekend. I hopped on a Minnesota Twins Caravan Bus and headed up to the Cities to see my Atlanta Braves play at Target Field. I was a little nervous after they lost Friday night, but the weekend couldn’t have turned out better. The Braves won 3-2 on Sat night, and 7-3 on Sunday. I was really missing the Metrodome Sat though because it was cold with some light mist at game time but Sunday was pretty nice just cloudy. I have to say that Target Field is an amazing place to watch a game though, really not a bad seat in the house. However, as I said this morning on the show, bring lots of money, the prices at the ballpark are a bit high. A burger, fries, and drink cost me $16! LOL But, I guess you have to pay Joe Mauer and and for the new ball park. The jumbo tron is cool, and so is the Twins logo in center that has things spinning when they hit a home run. Good thing that didn’t go off too much. LOL Of course, wearing my Braves Jersey’s, I got heckled a bit, and yes, I did have a few people remind me of the 91 World Series. At least I got the last laugh at the end of each game. You could hear a pin drop walking out of the place. LOL We stayed at a really nice hotel too and I must say, the girl at the front desk was very cute. She tried to get me to change shirts but I refused. The people with me swear that I could have had a date if I would have just pretended to convert to a Twins fan. What can I say, I’m stubborn. LOL

Facebook

June 1st, 2010 by cjohnson-kuql

For those of you who don’t know, I’ve created a facebook page for the morning show. There’s a link above, so if you’re a member feel free to check out the page to find out the latest with the station and myself. And also look me up and feel free to add me as a friend as well. Hope everyone had a nice holiday weekend and now that we’re officially into June, I guess you can say Summer has kicked off. I don’t have any real big plans yet, but all I know is that I’m looking forward to the warm temps. We don’t get enough of them that’s for sure. Just keep the humidity and bugs away. LOL

Memorial Weekend

May 27th, 2010 by cjohnson-kuql

As we approach the holiday weekend, I can tell already things are going to be super busy. Saturday and Sunday we’ll be out and about with your chance to qualify in the Super Summer Giveaway. And there are going to be so many fun things taking place on Mitchell’s Main Street Saturday so make sure you come on out. It’s also a real treat on the air this weekend with our A to Z weekend. I’ve been downstairs in the Kool 98 Music vault bringing up thousands of songs on records, 8-tracks, cassettes, and CD’s. That’s right, we’re playing every single song we have in the building this weekend so get ready for a real treat! I suppose a lot of people will be camping this weekend. Not me! As much as I love the outdoors, I also like indoor plumbing, and the comforts of my home. LOL What can I say, I’ve never been really good at roughing it. LOL The most important thing to remember this weekend though is to honor the Men and Women who gave their lives for us while serving in the Military. Let’s make sure we all take a few moments this weekend to not only do that, but to say a big thank you to all of our living Veterans as well.

Doctor

May 18th, 2010 by cjohnson-kuql

So yesterday I ran to the doctor to get a stupid Wart burned off my finger. I did this for a couple of reasons, 1, because it was bothering me, and 2, because my little nephew has a couple and I thought if he saw me go through it and not be scared that he’d have it done. It actually turned out to be a funny experience. My family doctor is a good friend and I coached his kids in baseball. We like to tease each other and he told me that he’s never removed a wart before but he looked it up on Google and it seems easy. LOL He had a student with him who graduates in December and I decided to be brave and let her tackle the wart. Her name was Lindsey and I was giving her a bad time that she had to give me something to talk about on the radio. The needle pinched a bit but otherwise I didn’t feel a thing when she shaved it off, just a nasty burning smell. Anyways, after the fact while I was telling the story, someone asked me if she was cute. And I replied that I’m at the doctors office and not thinking about that stuff at the time. By the way, she was very cute! Then I was asked why I didn’t ask her out. First of all, I’m sure she wasn’t single, and second of all, I didn’t want to make a fool of myself! LOL On a more serious note today, I’m looking for your help with giving a great Cat a home. Here’s the scoop, for the past 3 years or so, the neighbor lady and I have taken a beautiful Grey male cat under our wings. He was a stray but must have been a house cat at some point because he was so tame. Anyways, the person who took him in is sick and can’t care for him anymore. Well, we took him in at Mitchell Animal Rescue to get him fixed and updated on his shots and found out he has FIV which is basically Aids for Cats. Now, it’s not as bad as it sounds. We found out that most cats with this live long and healthy lives. The only catch is that he can’t be outside anymore. So, ideally, we’re looking for someone who would be willing to take him who has no other pets, and again, he needs to stay inside from now on. The good news is, if you do have other cats, as long as they’re up to date on their shots, they can’t catch the FIV. We really don’t want to have to put him down as we’ve grown quite attached to him. If you or someone you know would be interested in helping out, e-mail me cj@kool98.com, thanks!

Rain

May 12th, 2010 by cjohnson-kuql

Is anyone else starting to get the feeling that the weather pattern is going to be like last year where we had a wet, cool spring and summer? I sure hope not. I actually don’t mind the heat! I guess it’s because we only get it for a few months out of the year so I take advantage of it. As long as the tornados stay away and the farmers get the moisture they need, give me lots of sunshine and 90 degree temps! LOL Otherwise, I’m still on my search for a couple of my daughter’s b-day presents for next month. She wants a Strider Bike which I’ve never heard of. And I havn’t had any luck with a fold up fun canvas chair either. But you know, it’s a lot harder for guys to shop when it’s not right in front of them. LOL So if anyone can give me help, I’d appreciate it.

Way Overdue

May 3rd, 2010 by cjohnson-kuql

I apologize that I havn’t written anything in a while. You know how it is when your schedule gets crazy and it seems like there isn’t enough hours in the day. Well, let’s get you caught up. This past weekend was a very successful one for Mitchell Animal Rescue’s Flea Market at the Highland Mall. Not only was a lot of money raised, but Modern Woodmen is matching some of the money raised so that will go a long way to help needy dogs and cats in the area. Thanks to everyone who volunteered and came out and supported this great cause! Last week I had a chance to check out the new J-Lo movie “The Back-Up Plan”. Wasn’t really sure what to expect since I’m not a big fan of hers, but let me tell you, what a hilarious movie! I would highly recommend it to everyone. It was pretty much non-stop laughs throughout. Plus, it’s kind of a romantic comedy so it’s a great couple’s movie too. And let me just say once again, after watching the birthing scene in the film, no father should be in the room when a baby is born, we’re just not cut out for that kind of stuff! LOL Now that spring is here and the weather is getting nicer, I’ve started to go out running again. Ok, it’s more like a fast walk. Let’s be honest, if I actually tried to run for any length of time at this stage of the game, someone would be calling the ambulance for me. LOL But, it’s always nice to get outside for the fresh air and just to see everything green again. Besides, after a long winter, you kind of get cabin fever right?

Mother’s Day

April 20th, 2010 by cjohnson-kuql

I know Mother’s Day is still a few weeks away, but it’s never too early to have a plan. Every year it’s always the same thing, you take your mom out to eat for the special day and fight the big crowds no matter where you go. So, this year, I thought it would be kind of cool just to go over to my parents house and cook for my mom and just let her kick back and relax. I did actually get her a good gift, tickets to the 4 Seasons concert next month in Sioux City so that should be fun. Still working on finding a softball team for the summer. Made a few calls but no luck as of yet. Now if I could just find a girl I click with around here. I can’t remember the last time I actually went out on a GOOD date. LOL

Movies

April 14th, 2010 by cjohnson-kuql

If you’re headed to the theatre this week, make sure you check out “Date Night” with Steve Carell and Tina Fey. Saw it over the weekend and it was pretty hilarious! Basically, the 2 are a married couple with the same routine week after week. Well, they decide to spice up their weekly “Date Night” and go to this fancy place to eat, where they steal someone’s reservation. Turns out to be a bad move as the couple that didn’t show up was being chased by some bad guys because they had a computer disc with blackmail material on it. So, Steve and Tina are chased throughout the movie as they try and stay 1 step ahead of the bad guys while trying to figure out what’s going on and at the same time work on their relationship. The best part is near the end of the movie where the 2 does a hilarious dance. Overall I give it 3 out of 4 stars. Tomorrow is the last week of bowling and who knows, maybe it should be my last year. I’ve gone from a 160 average to a 120 in just 2 years, UGH! LOL Oh, now that we’re close to summer, if anyone is looking for extra players for their softball team, get a hold of me, I’d love to get back on a team. I can’t catch or throw like I used to but I can still hit pretty well. LOL

Random

April 6th, 2010 by cjohnson-kuql

Hope everyone had a nice Easter Weekend. I pigged out on Ham Sandwiches and had lots of fun playing the card game Phase 10. I lost but that’s not unusual. LOL Yesterday was a great day for the opening day of the Baseball season as my Atlanta Braves crushed the Chicago Cubs 16 to 5. Hope they can keep it up this year. Last night I went and checked out the movie Bounty Hunter. It wasn’t half bad. Jennifer Aniston is on the run from her ex-husband who’s looking to bring her in after she skips out on a court appearance and a warrant is issued for her arrest. They both end up with bigger problems than the fact they can’t stand each other after some killers find out she knows too much and a bookie wants her money. There was a nice twist at the end that I didn’t see coming and some pretty good laughs too. It did drag a bit during parts but I’d give it a 2 and a half out of 4 stars overall.
